M0DEST

on-chain survival game, pseudonymous artist · Ethereum · x.com/m0dest___

“as some of you may know, i make and share work every day.”

— m0dest (@m0dest___), X, 16 August 2026

the hardest part was never the clock. it was the surface. creating a visual language that honors a poem three thousand years old without dressing it up in a halloween costume. also - one that feels native to the browser and the blockchain rather than something ported there. the answer turned out to be print. the poem has always lived in its copies. now one of them reproduces itself in a new way, every day, forever.

The survival game

Death & Taxes by m0dest

6,969 CITIZENS ENTER THE SYSTEM. 69 WINNERS REMAIN AND CLAIM THE ENTIRE TREASURY. A DAILY TAX IS IMPOSED ON ALL CITIZENS. PAYMENT IS VOLUNTARY, BUT NON-PAYMENT CREATES RISK EXPOSURE. THE COST OF SURVIVAL INCREASES WITH TIME.

A pseudonymous artist who makes and shares work every day, and builds games that run on protocol logic. Death & Taxes turns survival into a daily tax obligation — pay or be audited, audited or burned.

In their words

On practice, on the surface, on what survives

as some of you may know, i make and share work every day. and the pace of that practice doesn't usually let me wrestle with a piece as long as i'd like. this one felt different. i gave it time to breathe (and break), and gave myself the same. i picked it up and put it down. came back over and over. gave up. started again. until I found the path.

the odyssey has no original. there is no authoritative manuscript, no author's copy. for three thousand years it has existed only as a consensus of copies: rhapsodes agreeing on lines, scribes checking scribes, editors in alexandria voting verses in and out. something very onchain parallel there - thousands of machines each holding the same text, agreeing on it, no single keeper. every custodian the poem ever had was mortal. alexandria burned, monasteries flooded, publishers folded. here - the token has an owner, but the poem is kept by everyone and belongs to no one. it is, precisely, nobody's.
