“With long-form works, the artist has nowhere to hide, and collectors will get to know the scope of the algorithm almost as well as the artist.”

— Tyler Hobbs, “The Rise of Long-Form Generative Art”, August 2021

The main basis of Fidenza is a flow field algorithm. I've been playing with this technique since 2016, and I've used it in dozens of works during that time. Flow fields allow me to produce unpredictable, organic curves.

Fidenza and QQL are read from the collections themselves on 14 August 2026. Incomplete Control did not resolve on the marketplace during this build; its edition size comes from the Art Blocks project record for project 228 and was cross-checked on chain — token 228000099 exists, 228000100 does not. No volume or sales figure is shown at all — the stats endpoint answered 429 for the whole run, and an estimate is not a measurement.

The one that set the form

Fidenza

“Fidenza is by far my most versatile algorithm to date. Although the program stays focused on structured curves and blocks, the varieties of scale, organization, texture, and color usage it can employ create a wide array of generative possibilities.”

The one about letting go

Incomplete Control

Incomplete Control is about letting go, allowing room for error and imperfection. It is a meditation on the relation between analogue and computational aesthetics.

He did not only make the work that proved long-form generative art could stand as art — he wrote the essay that explained why, and then published the algorithm's whole range instead of only its best runs. The argument and the evidence come from the same hand.

In his words

How the work is made, and what the making costs

Fidenza is my most versatile generative algorithm to date (as of 2021). Although it is not overly complex, the core structures of the algorithm are highly flexible, allowing for enough variety to produce continuously surprising results.

“Fidenza”, June 2021

For Fidenza, I spent about two months on this step. I repeatedly generated large sets of output, looked for the weakest examples, and figured out ways to improve or eliminate those cases.
